A clearer path to your license

State-approved education that fits your life

Texas requires eligible first-time driver license applicants ages 18–24 to complete a six-hour adult driver education course. Adults age 25 or older are not required to take driver education, but they may take this course voluntarily to satisfy the knowledge-test requirement.

The course includes the required knowledge test. After you pass, your electronic Certificate of Completion provides proof of course completion, so you will not need to take a separate knowledge test at DPS. All remaining licensing requirements still apply.
