Avinger's most useful local driving lesson is learning to anticipate what is ahead on a rural road.
There may be fewer intersections than in Atlanta, but that does not make the driving task simpler. Drivers need to look farther ahead, maintain a safe following distance, recognize changes in road alignment, and avoid assuming that an empty roadway means they should increase speed.
Night practice deserves special attention. The required Texas teen practice includes at least 10 nighttime hours, and rural roads can provide a very different visual environment from city streets. (Texas Licensing and Regulation)
