For a first-time Texas license applicant who is 18 through 24, the six-hour adult driver education course is generally required.

The course is separate from teen driver education and does not use the teen graduated licensing process.

After completing the applicable adult course, the student receives the required adult driver education certificate. DPS also requires an Impact Texas Driver program before a driving skills test. Teen Applicants

A typical teen licensing progression is:

1. Begin approved driver education as early as age 14.
2. Complete the classroom requirement under the selected method.
