Learning to drive in Bridgeport

Texas Comptroller records list Bridgeport as an active Wise County municipality.

U.S. 380

U.S. 380 is Bridgeport’s defining east-west regional corridor.

Wise County’s 2026 Thoroughfare Plan identifies especially significant truck traffic along U.S. 380 west of Bridgeport and lists U.S. 380 among the county’s designated freight routes.

Students should practice:

  • High-speed traffic
  • Truck spacing
  • Commercial driveway awareness
  • Early lane selection
  • Rural-to-city speed transitions

SH 114

SH 114 provides another major route through and around Bridgeport.

Wise County’s long-term transportation plan includes widening concepts for U.S. 380/SH 114 corridors in western and central Wise County.

These are future-planning concepts, not completed improvements.

Loop 373

TxDOT records show that the former Business U.S. 380 route in Bridgeport was redesignated as Loop 373 between U.S. 380 and Business SH 114.

This provides additional practice with:

  • Business-route traffic
  • Lower-speed transitions
  • Commercial access
  • Highway connections

Downtown Bridgeport

Bridgeport’s downtown Halsell Street remains an active retail and civic district.

Students should watch for:

  • Parked vehicles
  • Pedestrians
  • Event traffic
  • Short blocks
  • Turning vehicles

Bridgeport City Hall

Bridgeport City Hall is located at:

900 Thompson Street Bridgeport, TX 76426.

Rail and Freight Traffic

Wise County’s 2026 transportation plan notes Union Pacific freight infrastructure around Bridgeport and quarry-related rail activity in western Wise County.

That supports local awareness of:

  • Railroad crossings
  • Heavy trucks
  • Industrial traffic
  • Quarry-related vehicles

Development Along U.S. 380

Bridgeport’s tax-increment reinvestment program includes a downtown/hospital/U.S. 380 zone designed to encourage development along the corridor.

Students should expect the U.S. 380 environment to continue evolving through new commercial access and development.

Driver License and Tax Resources

Bridgeport has a Wise County tax-office branch at:

1007 13th Street Bridgeport, TX 76426.

This is not the DPS Driver License Office.

For licensing, the best-documented Wise County DPS office is in Decatur at 2000 S. Trinity Street.
