Begin on lower-speed residential roads where the student can work on steering, braking, turns, and right-of-way decisions.

Move next to FM 3506 or another lower-demand regional road.

Introduce SH 155 only after the student is comfortable judging higher-speed traffic and maintaining lane position consistently.

SH 155

SH 155 is the principal regional highway through Coffee City.

It crosses Lake Palestine and connects the community north toward Tyler and south toward Frankston and Palestine.

For a beginning driver, SH 155 introduces:

FM 315

FM 315 lies west and northwest of Coffee City and connects the broader area toward Chandler, Poynor, and rural Henderson County.

The strongest Coffee City-specific driving topic is SH 155’s crossing of Lake Palestine.

A bridge and causeway create a different driving environment from a normal neighborhood street.

Maintain Lane Position

There is less room for correction on a bridge than on an open rural road with a wide roadside area.

A beginning driver should look farther down the lane instead of focusing immediately in front of the vehicle. That helps maintain a steady position.

Avoid Abrupt Steering

Small unnecessary steering corrections can become more noticeable when a student feels confined by bridge barriers or open water.

Keep the steering smooth and intentional.

The scenery should not become the focus while the vehicle is moving.

That makes trailers and recreational traffic locally relevant.

A vehicle towing a boat may:

• Accelerate more slowly
• Require additional stopping distance
• Make wider turns
• Take longer to enter a highway
• Need extra space when backing

A beginning driver should leave additional space and avoid squeezing past a turning or backing trailer.

Lake visitors may also be unfamiliar with local streets. A vehicle ahead could slow unexpectedly while its driver looks for a marina, rental property, campground, or lake access point.

FM 3506 is particularly useful for local driver practice because it connects SH 155 with FM 315 while remaining in the Coffee City area.

Unlike SH 155, the road does not function primarily as a major regional through route.

That makes it more appropriate for practicing:

• Smooth speed changes

Once those skills are reliable, SH 155 can become the next step.

Flooding is a legitimate local concern, but it should not be exaggerated.

That does not mean every Coffee City road floods after rain.

For a new driver, the practical rules are:

• Do not enter water when the depth cannot be determined.
• Do not assume a flooded road is safe because another vehicle crossed.
• Reduce speed during heavy rain.
• Increase following distance.
• Use another route when water covers the roadway.

Coffee City is surrounded by a lower-density road network.

Rural driving can look easier because there are fewer cars, but the speeds are often higher.

Frankston

Frankston lies south of Coffee City along SH 155.

A learner who has become comfortable on local streets can eventually use this route for sustained highway practice.

Tyler

Tyler lies north of Coffee City on the other side of Lake Palestine.

Berryville

Berryville is another incorporated Henderson County municipality close to the south and west side of Lake Palestine.

Chandler

Chandler lies northwest of Coffee City.

FM 315 and the surrounding road network provide connections toward Chandler and SH 31.

Poynor

Poynor lies southwest of Coffee City and is another incorporated Henderson County community.

Trips through the Poynor area provide experience on rural East Texas highways and Farm to Market roads.
