I-35 is Georgetown’s defining high-speed corridor.

TxDOT’s August 2026 public-review project covers approximately 13 miles from SH 29 in Georgetown to SH 45 North. The proposal includes:

• two non-tolled HOV managed lanes in each direction
• one additional main lane in each direction between SH 29 and RM 1431
• relocated entrance and exit ramps
• reconstructed bridges and intersections
• bypass lanes
• shared-use paths.

These are proposed improvements, not completed infrastructure.

SH 29 is Georgetown’s main east-west corridor and connects the city with Liberty Hill to the west and eastern Williamson County to the east.

• commercial entrances
• highway-to-city speed transitions
• early lane selection
• truck awareness

Georgetown students should expect I-35 conditions to change as projects advance.

Students should follow current:

• lane markings
• overhead signs
• temporary barriers
• ramp directions
• construction speed limits

rather than relying on memory.

The historic courthouse square gives students practice with:

• pedestrians
• short blocks
• parked vehicles
• turning traffic
• visitors unfamiliar with downtown roads

This is a useful contrast to I-35 and SH 29.
