Learning to drive in Granger

Granger supports a focused standalone page because it combines rural agricultural roads, railroad history, FM 971, SH 95, and a current TxDOT roadway-improvement project.

The City of Granger states that the community originated where two railroad branches intersected in 1882. (grangertx.us)

FM 971

TxDOT identifies a current FM 971 project from CR 334 to SH 95, approximately 3.14 miles long.

The project includes:

  • roadway rehabilitation
  • widening
  • drainage improvements
  • bicycle-accessible shoulders
  • pedestrian elements within Granger

Design began in 2023, and letting is anticipated for December 2028.

This is a planned project, not active construction yet.

SH 95

SH 95 is another important regional route serving eastern Williamson County and Granger-area travel.

Students should expect:

  • highway-speed traffic
  • agricultural vehicles
  • rural intersections
  • trucks
  • longer following distances

Granger City Hall

The City of Granger lists its physical address at:

214 E. Davilla Street Granger, TX 76530. (grangertx.us)

This gives students a lower-speed civic and downtown practice environment.

Railroad Awareness

Granger’s history is directly tied to rail infrastructure. (grangertx.us)

Students should:

  • obey gates and signals
  • never stop on tracks
  • leave enough room to clear crossings
  • expect trains even when road traffic is light

Agricultural Roads

Students may encounter:

  • tractors
  • grain trucks
  • farm equipment
  • trailers
  • rural property entrances
