Primary Local Driving Topic: Moving Between Local Roads and I-30
Hooks students have an especially useful local lesson in understanding interstate access.
A driver who has only practiced on town streets may find freeway ramps, acceleration, merging, and lane changes unfamiliar. Practice should focus on judging gaps instead of simply looking for an open lane. Drivers also need to watch signs early because interstate exits and entrance ramps require decisions before the vehicle reaches the actual ramp.
Current TxDOT work on I-30 includes widening and frontage-road improvements in Bowie County. Construction can alter lane arrangements and ramp access, making it important to follow temporary traffic-control signs. (Texas Department of Transportation)
