Under the current DriverEdToGo block-method program, the student completes the full 32-hour online classroom course before moving to the learner license stage. The Texas 6-hour adult course is intended for the adult licensing pathway, not the teen program.

If you are 18 through 24 and applying for your first Texas driver license, DPS requires proof of completion of a 6-hour adult driver education course, unless an applicable exception applies. A new resident age 18 or older who surrenders a valid, unexpired out-of-state license is one stated exception. An approved adult driver education course can also affect the highway sign and traffic law portions of the knowledge examination. Teen Applicants

A typical teen progression is:

1. Begin approved driver education as early as age 14.
