Primary Local Driving Topic: US 77 and SH 320 Highway Transitions
For a new Lott driver, one of the most useful exercises is learning how to transition between the local street network and the US 77 and SH 320 corridors.
The student should practice recognizing highway approaches early, choosing a safe gap, maintaining speed once established on the highway, and preparing for intersections before reaching them.
This is different from simply learning vehicle control on a quiet residential street. Highway driving requires more forward planning because traffic approaches faster and stopping distances increase as speed increases.
