U.S. 290

U.S. 290 is Manor’s dominant local highway.

New drivers should expect:

  • Commuter traffic
  • Trucks
  • Commercial entrances
  • High-speed approaches
  • Traffic signals
  • Rapid suburban development
  • Rural-to-urban transitions

SH 130

SH 130 provides Manor with major toll-road access.

The city’s long-range comprehensive plan identifies U.S. 290 and SH 130 as the two roads through Manor suited to an expressway classification. The plan describes access-restricted divided facilities designed for high mobility and regional travel.

For students, SH 130 should come later in the practice sequence because it involves:

  • High speeds
  • Trucks
  • Toll-road navigation
  • Long interchange spacing
  • Higher consequences for poor lane planning

Growth and Road Changes

Manor’s transportation environment is changing as new residential and commercial development expands east of Austin.

This means new drivers should rely on:

  • Current signs
  • Current lane markings
  • Current signal timing
  • Current navigation information

instead of assuming a familiar route still works the same way.

School Traffic

Manor ISD schools add frequent bus, parent, pedestrian, and student traffic to roads around the city.

Students should gain experience with school zones before progressing to U.S. 290 and SH 130.

Rural Roads East of Manor

The eastern edge of Travis County gives Manor students useful rural-road practice.

Expect:

  • Farm entrances
  • Trucks
  • Two-lane roads
  • Fewer streetlights
  • Longer gaps between intersections
  • Higher speeds

Driver License Resources

Manor does not have a DPS Driver License Center identified in the Travis County baseline.

The Pflugerville Driver License Center at 216 E. Wells Branch Parkway is one documented northeastern Travis County resource. Austin North is another.
