Texas allows eligible teens to begin classroom driver education at age 14. The learner license cannot be obtained before age 15.

First-time Texas license applicants ages 18 through 24 generally must complete the 6-hour adult course. DPS exempts new Texas residents age 18 or older who surrender a valid, unexpired out-of-state license. Applicants age 25 and older do not have a driver education requirement. Teen Applicants

Local Meadowlakes Streets

Meadowlakes has a different street environment from the public regional highways. Drivers should follow the community's posted signs and traffic controls and be prepared for pedestrians, golf-related activity and vehicles entering or leaving residential properties.

The defining local skill for a Meadowlakes learner is transitioning from a controlled residential environment to the larger Marble Falls road system.

Inside the community, a driver may be dealing with lower-speed residential conditions. Once outside, the driver may quickly encounter US 281, RM 1431, commercial entrances, signalized intersections and higher-speed traffic.

That change requires an adjustment in scanning distance and following space. Students should practice recognizing when they are leaving a neighborhood environment and entering a regional traffic corridor.

Private and Residential Street Awareness

Meadowlakes has a gated community setting, so students should not assume that local streets provide the same driving environment as public regional highways. Posted signs and community traffic controls should always be followed.

Golf and Pedestrian Activity

Trips outside Meadowlakes can quickly lead toward lake communities and roads serving recreational traffic. Trailer awareness and careful turning are useful skills in this region.

An eligible student living in Meadowlakes can complete the online classroom portion of the applicable Texas driver education course from home. The same Texas licensing rules apply throughout Burnet County.

The local environment matters after enrollment because the student still needs to complete the separate licensing, driving practice, in-car instruction and testing requirements that apply to the chosen pathway.

Marble Falls
