Primary Local Driving Topic: FM 6 and Rural-to-Regional Road Transitions
A Nevada student can move quickly from a quiet local street to a state highway. That change requires a different driving mindset.
Before entering FM 6, check traffic from both directions, identify your intended lane, and give yourself enough time to make the turn. On a longer trip, avoid focusing only on the vehicle immediately ahead. Scan farther down the roadway for slowing traffic, turning vehicles, changing lane patterns, and intersections.
Night practice also matters. Headlights reduce visibility compared with daylight, and drivers need to adjust speed when they cannot clearly see what lies beyond their illuminated area.
