Learning to drive in Poth

Poth supports a solid standalone page because it combines U.S. 181, FM 541, school traffic, agricultural roads, and a small-city environment distinct from Floresville.

The Wilson County baseline identifies Poth as an incorporated municipality on the U.S. 181 corridor.

U.S. 181

U.S. 181 is Poth’s defining regional highway.

Students should practice:

  • highway-to-town speed transitions
  • truck awareness
  • early turn preparation
  • safe following distance
  • rural intersection judgment

FM 541

TxDOT’s current 2027-2030 Rural TIP includes an FY 2027 project on FM 541 from U.S. 181 to Marcelinas Creek for seal coat and pavement markings, with a programmed expenditure beginning in October 2026.

This is maintenance programming rather than proof of an active lane closure.

Students should still expect road conditions and markings to change as work progresses.

Poth Schools

Poth ISD operates multiple campuses clustered in town:

  • Poth Elementary at 210 Brinkoeter
  • Poth Junior High at 505 N. Dickson Street
  • Poth High School at 506 N. Dickson Street.

This creates concentrated:

  • school-bus traffic
  • parent drop-off traffic
  • student drivers
  • pedestrians
  • athletic-event traffic

Poth City Hall

The City of Poth lists its municipal address at:

200 N. Carroll Street Poth, TX 78147.

This gives the Carroll Street area a clear civic traffic role.

Agricultural Traffic

Poth sits in a more agricultural part of southern Wilson County.

Students may encounter:

  • tractors
  • farm trucks
  • livestock trailers
  • pickup trucks towing equipment
  • slow-moving vehicles

Rural Night Driving

Outside Poth, lighting drops quickly.

Students should practice:

  • correct headlight use
  • longer following distance
  • dark intersection recognition
  • wildlife awareness
  • early recognition of farm entrances

Driver License Resources

Poth does not have the county’s main DPS office.

Floresville remains the best-documented Wilson County Driver License resource.
