Willacy County Courthouse

The Willacy County Courthouse is located at:

576 W. Main Avenue Raymondville, TX 78580.

This area creates:

  • Government traffic
  • Court visitors
  • Parking activity
  • Pedestrians
  • Drivers unfamiliar with downtown streets

I-69E

Raymondville sits beside the county’s main north-south interstate-standard corridor.

TxDOT’s current maintenance records identify multiple Willacy County road segments as IH 69E, including Raymondville-area segments.

Students should practice:

  • Highway-speed merging
  • Lane discipline
  • Truck spacing
  • Exit preparation
  • Sign reading
  • Following distance

SH 186

SH 186 is Raymondville’s defining east-west route and connects the city with Port Mansfield.

Current TxDOT maintenance plans include SH 186 along with several Raymondville-area FM roads.

For students, SH 186 adds:

  • Rural highway speeds
  • Agricultural traffic
  • Long-distance travel
  • Crosswinds
  • Highway-to-town transitions

FM 490

TxDOT’s current maintenance mapping includes multiple FM 490 segments in the Raymondville area, including connections with I-69E and Business U.S. 77.

Students should expect:

  • Two-lane rural traffic
  • Farm entrances
  • Agricultural vehicles
  • Highway intersections
  • Drainage crossings

Agricultural-to-Interstate Progression

Raymondville gives students one of the best local training sequences in the county:

  1. Residential streets
  2. Downtown intersections
  3. Business highway roads
  4. FM 490
  5. SH 186
  6. I-69E frontage roads
  7. I-69E

Travel Toward Port Mansfield

The county baseline identifies SH 186 as the main east-west route toward Port Mansfield and the Laguna Madre.

Students progressing east should be prepared for:

  • Longer rural stretches
  • Crosswinds
  • Boat trailers
  • Recreational traffic
  • Reduced nighttime lighting
  • Fewer services

This is better suited to later-stage supervised practice.

Proposed I-69 Connector

Willacy County remains part of the regional I-69 Connector study area.

TxDOT describes the study as a proposed non-toll freeway connection from I-69C/U.S. 281 to I-69E/U.S. 77 across Hidalgo, Cameron, and Willacy counties. The study area covers approximately 400 square miles, and alternatives are roughly 23 to 26 miles long.

This is a proposed corridor, not an existing highway.

Driver License Resources

The county baseline identifies historical evidence of a Raymondville Area Office but does not establish a current standard Class C Driver License Office strongly enough to publish an address.
