Round Rock, Texas Online Driver’s Ed

I-35 is Round Rock’s defining north-south corridor.

Students should practice:

• highway-speed merging
• frontage-road navigation
• truck awareness
• early exit planning
• lane discipline
• construction-zone driving

The City of Round Rock and TxDOT are updating the approximately 2.5-mile U.S. 79 corridor from I-35 to east of A.W. Grimes Boulevard.

The proposal would widen the road to a six-lane divided facility and includes:

• a raised median
• intersection improvements
• grade separation at A.W. Grimes
• turn lanes
• sidewalk and shared-use-path improvements

The project remains in preliminary design.

As of August 2026, Greenlawn Boulevard widening is actively under construction between I-35 and SH 45.

The project is expanding the road to six lanes and includes bridge work and a separated bicycle path.

Students should expect:

• traffic-control changes
• construction vehicles
• temporary lane patterns
• bridge work

The Red Bud Lane North project from U.S. 79 to CR 117 is also actively under construction.

Traffic shifted onto newly constructed pavement in August 2026, and completion is anticipated in spring 2027.

SH 45 adds toll-road, frontage-road, and interchange complexity.

The city is also coordinating with Pflugerville on SH 45 frontage-road improvements.

Round Rock’s FY 2026 budget includes approximately $161.7 million in road expansion work, including projects on:

• Greenlawn Boulevard
• Gattis School Road
• Old Settlers Boulevard
• Red Bud Lane
• County Road 112.

This makes construction awareness one of the strongest local themes.

Round Rock does not replace Georgetown as the county’s best-documented primary DPS resource.

The Georgetown Westinghouse Driver License Center remains the safest county-wide licensing reference.
