Primary Local Driving Topic: Freeway, Frontage-Road, and Interchange Driving
San Antonio is a useful place for a new driver to learn the difference between an expressway lane and its frontage road. The two systems can run beside each other while serving different movements.
A common skill to practice is deciding where you need to be before reaching an interchange. Waiting until the last few hundred feet to change lanes can create unnecessary pressure. Watch overhead signs, identify your exit early, maintain a safe following distance, and make lane changes only when conditions allow.
The current transportation work around I-410, US 281, SH 151, I-10, and Loop 1604 also means that drivers may encounter temporary lane arrangements. (Texas Department of Transportation)
