Primary Local Driving Topic: US 96 and SH 327 Corridor Transitions
Silsbee gives new drivers repeated opportunities to practice the transition between city streets and state or U.S. highways.
A student who becomes comfortable only on local streets may not yet be prepared for higher-speed traffic on US 96 or SH 327. Practice should gradually add lane changes, larger intersections, higher speeds, and longer following distances.
TxDOT's current project documentation also shows ongoing roadway work in the Silsbee area. Students should treat active work zones as a separate driving environment and follow temporary signs, lane markings, and flaggers.
