U.S. 79
U.S. 79 connects Taylor with Hutto and Round Rock to the west and eastern Williamson County to the east.
Students should practice:
- highway-speed control
- truck spacing
- commercial entrances
- early turn preparation
- rural-to-city speed transitions
SH 95
SH 95 gives students north-south highway practice involving:
- rural intersections
- agricultural traffic
- trucks
- railroad-related crossings
- longer regional trips
Samsung-Area Traffic
The City of Taylor identifies the Samsung semiconductor facility between Highway 79 and FM 973.
The project encompasses more than 1,000 acres and a roughly 6-million-square-foot facility.
For driver education, the relevant issues are:
- employee traffic
- construction vehicles
- suppliers
- heavy trucks
- new access roads
- rapidly changing intersections
FM 973
TxDOT and CAMPO are studying widening FM 973 from Samsung Highway to U.S. 79.
The proposal remains in project-development and public-review stages.
A separate 2026 study also covers FM 973 from U.S. 290 to Samsung Highway across Travis and Williamson counties.
Students should expect the corridor to continue changing.
Current Downtown Road Work
Taylor began warranty road work on 2nd Street and 4th Street in August 2026, including overlay and restriping work.
This is current local material and should be rechecked before publication if the page goes live later.
City Hall
Taylor City Hall is located at:
400 Porter Street Taylor, TX 76574.
Railroad Awareness
Taylor’s development has long been tied to rail, and modern industrial expansion keeps freight movement relevant.
Students should:
- obey crossing signals
- never stop on tracks
- leave room to clear crossings
- expect large trucks near industrial areas
Driver License Resources
Historical DPS records identify a Taylor Driver License Office at 412 Vance Street, but the Williamson County baseline recommends verifying current operating status before publication.
Georgetown remains the stronger current county-wide DPS reference.
