Primary Local Driving Topic: Highway and Industrial Corridor Awareness
Texas City's major roads serve both ordinary local traffic and regional transportation. For a new driver, that makes lane positioning and traffic scanning especially important.
Students should learn to distinguish through lanes from turn lanes, anticipate larger vehicles when traveling near major commercial corridors, and avoid making sudden lane changes when approaching an intersection.
FM 1764 is a good example. It links I-45 with SH 146, crosses the developed part of Texas City, and has been the subject of TxDOT improvement planning. (Texas Department of Transportation)
The goal is not to memorize a list of roads. A student should understand how one corridor changes from freeway access to city traffic and how to make decisions before reaching the next intersection.
