TDLR's current PTDE guide allows a teen to begin classroom driver education at 14, but the learner license requires the teen to be at least 15 and satisfy the applicable classroom and licensing requirements. The current PTDE guide says the concurrent method requires six classroom hours before the learner license, while its PTDE block-method description uses 32 classroom hours. County Line Road, Main Drive, and other local connectors become important when approaching US 75. Drivers should pay attention to changing speed limits and lane arrangements rather than treating the entire corridor as one type of road.

For a Van Alstyne student, freeway and frontage-road skills deserve special attention.

A driver needs to understand that the frontage road and freeway are not interchangeable. Entering the freeway requires finding an appropriate gap and reaching a suitable speed. Exiting requires planning early enough to get into the correct lane without sudden movements.
